SAMGLOPAD
REACTANT SYSTEM
The colouration of textiles with pigment/resin is not new. However,
while it is easy to apply, there are serious advantages, mainly harsher
handle and limitation on rubfastness, especially wet rubfastness.
The SAMGLOPAD REACTANT SYSTEM overcomes these problems, by reacting
the colour with the fibre and simultaneously with resin. This is a
condensation reaction. Very soft and fast dyeings are obtained in
light and up to medium shades.
The method is applicable to all kinds of fibres and is particularly useful
for fibre blends, the most popular fibre blend at present is
polyester/cotton, of course.
There are big cosdt savings compared to conventional methods, which are
illustrated by the following process comparisons:

The
advantage are clear:
- Single stage process
- Simple procedure
- No seconds, as results can be observed
on the first metre sampled and quickly adjusted if necessary.
- As a result of 1-3, low processing
costs.
For knitwear the advantages are at least
the same. As knitwear is finished on the stenter anyway, there is no
need to use expensive dyeing techniques, such as jet dyeing.
For example, a P/C dyeing in the jet with
disperse and reactives takes about 10 hours. If the shade has to be
adjusted it takes even longer and the chemical costs can be doubled or
even more.
With the SAMGLO REACTANT PROCESS,
the knitwear is padded with the finishing chemicals plus colour and
processed through the stenter at speeds between 25 - 50 per minute;
depending on the length of the stenter.
Some important points
should be considered:
- Pretreatment
of the goods - to obtain a uniform appearance of the
goods and good fastness properties, the fabric must be subject to
careful pretreatment, it must be free of impurities and have good
absorbency. Surface active substances should not be used to
improve the absorbency of the goods, as this can cause increased
colour migration and could result in a drop of wet crock fastness
- Bath
preparation - the bath should be prepared at room
temperature. Temperatures above 35° C should be avoided.
Feed tanks should be fitted with stirrers to ensure homogeneity of
padding liquor.
- Padding
- to limit migration to a minimum the liquor pick-up should be as low
as possible. We have incorporated a unique chemical in the
system to greatly reduce the tendency for migration, even under
adverse conditions.
- Drying and
curing - the goods can be dried ( 100°C - 200°C ) and
subsequently cured; 1 min at 180°C, or flash dry/cured 1 min at
190°C, depending on stenter characteristics> A prepared
method for knitwear is to dry and cure in one run, by progressively,
increasing the temperature in the stenter bays.
Any Calendar treatment should be carried out prior to curing.

If crease recovery or additional knit
stability is required, please add 50 - 100 g/1 Samglo DMEU Resin to the
padding liquor. Other resins can also be used. Similarly other
handle modifiers can be used, however in such cases it is recommended to
check compatibility and dyebath stability first.
The individual
components have following functions:
| SAMGLOPAD
U |
- this
incorporates the reactant crosslinker, lubricants to prevent
coating of rollers
and a unique antimigration device. |
| SAMGLOPAD
SP |
- this is a
polymer resin that condenses with SAMGLOPAD U
and
SAMGLOACTIVE COLOURS. |
| SAMSOFT
94E |
- is a
silicone softener, that imparts a particularly smooth handle to
fibres. If a
more voluminous soft handle is required, we recommend the
use of Samsoft 18,
which is another type of silicone softener. Other
types of handle modifiers can
also be used, however please check compatibility first. |
| SAMGLO
FREEZE B |
- this is
an additional antimigrating agent used for structured fabrics or
particularly
unfavourable stenter conditions. |
| SAMGLOPAD
M |
- is a mild
catalyst |
| SAMGLOPAD
B |
- is a
rapid cure catalyst, with limited potential, as great care is
required in
its application |
